The Gomoa Central District Assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has disbursed support to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the District as part of government’s commitment to promoting social inclusion, empowerment, and improved livelihoods for persons with disabilities.

The disbursement was undertaken under the Persons with Disabilities Fund, which is financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund and seeks to provide targeted interventions that address the needs of persons with disabilities and enhance their participation in social and economic activities.

The support provided covered key areas including health assistance, educational support, business support, and assistance to caregivers of persons with disabilities. These interventions are aimed at reducing barriers faced by beneficiaries, improving access to essential services, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing beneficiaries during the exercise, the District Chief Executive (DCE) reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in the development process. The DCE encouraged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support received and utilize it towards improving their well-being and economic independence.

The DCE further emphasized the need for beneficiaries to see the intervention as an empowerment opportunity and encouraged them to work towards sustainable outcomes that would positively impact their lives and families.

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development also used the occasion to educate beneficiaries on the responsible utilization of the support and assured them of continued monitoring and guidance to ensure that the intended objectives of the programme are achieved.

The disbursement forms part of the District Assembly’s efforts to strengthen social protection interventions and promote an inclusive society where persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate and contribute to community development.

The Gomoa Central District Assembly remains committed to supporting vulnerable groups and implementing programmes that improve the welfare and dignity of all residents.
