The Honourable District Chief Executive, Hon. Hackman Kobina Aidoo led the Gomoa Central District Assembly to recently observe the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise campaign in the district at Gomoa Mangoase electoral area thus Gomoa Brofoyedur, Gomoa Mangoase and Gomoa Osamkrom communities on Saturday October 4, 2025, to clear choked gutters, sweep, and weed overgrowth areas.
He was supported by the District Coordinating Director Rubby Sitsope Besagah (Mrs) and the Staff of the Assembly to observe the occasion. The exercise was an effort of the Assembly in line with the government’s commitment to improve environmental cleanliness and promote sustainable solid waste management practice by the people. As part of the National Sanitation Day, all shops were required to close between 6: 30A.M and 11: 00A.M for residents and vendors to participate fully.
The Honourable District Chief Executive had a Press engagement and expressed his delight with the collective community participation and the involvement of the traditional leadership, Chiefs and elders. He praised the communities and promised to procure some sanitary tools for the four (4) Area Councils in the district to enable the communities to readily access the tools for clean-up exercises anytime.
The Hon. District Chief Executive appealed to residents to take full responsibility for cleaning their environment for a cleaner district. He entreated community members to sustain the clean physical environment created and be change agents on Sanitation.
Targeted Areas for Exercise
The key focus areas for the clean-up exercise were the principal streets of the three communities, the gutters/drains, the market, the Health Center, thoroughfares and the public toilet at Gomoa Osamkrom. These areas were all rendered clean by the end of the exercise.
Activities undertaken
The activities undertaken during the National Sanitation Day Celebration.
- Weeding and sweeping of principal street and thoroughfares
- Cleaning and picking of polythene bags
- Gathering and disposing of refuse
- Desilting of choked gutters/drains
- Sensitization on proper waste disposal and environmental hygiene.
- Sweeping of the market.
- Janitorial cleaning of the Osamkrom public toilet and weeding of the surroundings.
- Weeding the surroundings of the Gomoa Mangoase Health Center etc.
